About the Shoot

Set this year on the wooded banks of Chatsworth estate, and once again ably managed by Nick Walker and the Field sports team there are six long flushes this year with the seriously competitive TOP Gun Pool shoot to win the professors plate in memory of Dan Simons.

The Flushes this year are in two areas each having 3 stands with Hospitality laid on to provide a much more relaxed day rather than frantically driving from Stand to Stand. The stands are numbered 1-6 working from Right (being closet to the House) to Left:

Zone 1

1. For those of you who like your Barbour get it on here for A Bit of Rough (100 Points), anything could come out here so keeps your eyes peeled on the 1st stand

2. You’ve just gone for stroll down though the field in the early morning and disturbed an Old Oak full of Crazy Crows (100 Points) and they explode in all directions, make sure your team cover all the angles

3. Once again the classic Mixed Bag Thicket (100 Points) will be diverse and challenging, the air will be thick with opportunities for you to run out of talent or shells, watch out for the springing Teal!

Zone 2

4. Moorland on a windy day is the setting for the High Partridge (200 Points) and we mean high these are challenging enough to make you wonder if you should have brought a rifle instead, the 2 exploding flash clays are worth extra team points

5. Pigeon Pie (100 Points) is laid on with 5 hides with decoys peckers and magnets, it’s like wait for the first flight at dusk as they wing in onto the waiting Guns, don’t be shy, get ‘em all

6. The Crazy Rabbit Warren (100 Points) with them bucking and jumping in from all angles and then disappearing down the holes, you’ll have to give these a proper lead or else have to ask yourself “what’s up doc”

Top Gun Pool Shoot

£20 for 5 pairs; a real challenge if last years were anything to go by. So bring your straightest barrels to be the best of the best.

• Ably won last year by Brian Newton, who won the “Professors Plate” in memory of Dan Simons

Special note: CARTIDGES - FIBRE WADS ONLY!

Cartridges were a bit of a problem last year for a number of people so to keep everything simple we are asking all shooters to bring their own preference of shells to maximise their shooting ability!

You’ll probably need 2 boxes per drive per man and there are 6 drives, should anyone forget we will have shells for sale on a cash only basis.
